Our objects are concrete expressions of our culture. The production, exchange, and distribution of commodities are driving forces within culture and fundamental structures of society. This truth provides a lens through which to consider the global market economy, in which seductive objects are hastily produced by exploited labor, impetuously consumed, and swiftly discarded. In the face of this dehumanizing chain we can resist by becoming producers of objects ourselves. We can recapture the reins of our immediate modes of production and exchange. This is the way to non-violently change society, its commodities, its understanding of production, its distribution and exchange, even the way we relate personally to objects.
